Starting 2013-2014, the Computer Science curriculum will feature a new Master Specialisation: Software Technology.

This will be the successor of the Software Engineering specialisation that existed up until 2012-2013. Software Technology (ST) complements the currently existing palette of specialisations, and is expected to attract a group of students who otherwise might not be able to find anything in their area of interest within the Computer Science Master at the University of Twente.

The ST curriculum combines courses in several categories: Fundamentals, Software Engineering Phases, Technologies, and Application Areas. A unique feature (within Computer Science) is the Industrial Advisory Board, which will serve as a sounding board and a means of information exchange between the academic and industrial perspective. As an example of this, instead of an internship, second-year students are expected to take an Industrial Software Engineering Project based on real-world cases contributed by the members of the Advisory Board.

Though of course the level of abstraction and research-awareness in ST is appropriate to an academic Master, we envisage this specialisation to cater especially to those students more interested in actively contributing to high-quality software systems, independently of the application domain, than in pursuing an academic career.
